First sportive of the year – La Petite Bisou

La Petite Bisou

The weather is turning and its time to get out and blow away the cobwebs and start getting seriously fit for the summer. For me the first serious outing is La Petite Bisou sportive which is a fabulous local event with excellent organisation. You really do feel like a professional cyclist with the start/finish gantries, motorbike outriders, roadside spectators and rolling road closures.

However, at this time of year even a 75km event is enough to really tire the legs and body which are unaccustomed to the intensity and duration of the effort these supposedly “recreational” events involve. An autumn of SkiFit led to an exceptional ski season with no knee tweaks or swelling which is a first, but since the skiing began I’ve been a bit slack at keeping up with the core strength work and stretching. Thankfully there is now the BikeFit programme which is a major part of our new TriFit programme. This will help me deal with my already tired, aching legs and back, and the tightness caused by the unrelenting position and effort on the bike. Now I just have to find time to fit in some serious stretching and core work which will hopefully help me gain an edge over my competitors who beat me in a group sprint at the weekend! Next time!
